Today has been a day much anticipated for the last several weeks in the Keating household! Why you ask? Well it all started a month or two ago when the boys and I got into a discussion about pets and I promised them we could get a fish before we have another baby (no I'm not pregnant). If any of you out there have inquisitive children yourself, you will understand how this immediately led to dozens of other questions about exactly what the fish would look like and how big they would be and of course, exactly when we were going to get them.
So awhile back, Feb 4 was labeled as the next family date night where we would venture out to find the perfect fish (and by that point it was up to 2 fish - one for each of them) to bring home.
We ended up going over to Fins, Feathers, Paws & Claws in Harleysville. I had heard awhile ago that this was a fun pet store for kids, as well as recently hearing there was a large tortoise roaming the floor during open hours. The store was definitely impressive and had all kinds of animals to look at, but we started to worry that the turtle was no longer out because we couldn't find him anywhere. We did eventually ask someone and they said very casually that he was over somewhere by the dog food, of course the one aisle we hadn't gone down. Sure enough, there he was sleeping right in front of the dog food and was he big! I'm guessing he was about 2 feet long and 1 foot wide...and he did at one point open an eye to look at us which was a little intimadating!
After find the turtle, the next mission was to find our fish. The boys gracefully accepted our "no's" to a Nemo fish and a Dori fish they wanted that were quite pricey and found 2 very cute little goldfish that were just the right size and price for our first time pet owners! We did come home and read how to take care of goldfish and apparently bowls are no longer a good thing to put them in (guess we should have read that before we left!) so now we're on the hunt for a bigger tank to put our little guys in.
Caleb named his fish "Theodore" and Noah named his fish "Alvin" and they are both so excited about their new little friends to care for! Here are a few more pictures....
This is Alvin - Noah's fish...
and this is Caleb's fish - Theodore.
The boys were also super excited about their new jammies that grammy dropped off this morning! Thanks grammy!

Now you just need to get a 3rd fish and name him Simon. :)
We aren't even goldfish people ... no pets around here! But I hope you have fun with the fish ... and hopefully they stick around for awhile! Sounds like a fun family night out!
i was thinking "fish" was the pet I could handle right now...how fun!
Caleb and Noah were positively squeezable in those cuddly jammies when I was there last week!!
