Family Zoo Trip

A couple weeks ago we took a family field trip to the Norristown Zoo, but I never got around to posting the pictures! Caleb has now been to the Elmwood Zoo several times and can point out different animals. Noah was a little more interested than a couple weeks ago and I think his favorite were the little prairie dogs! We went on a Friday evening and it was amazing how quiet the zoo was people-wise and active it was animal-wise. Usually when we go during the day, the zoo is full of people and most of the animals are tired and not really moving around much. This last time, however, was totally different. We saw maybe 5 other families the whole time we were there so it felt like we had the zoo to ourselves...which when we were near the mountain lions and cougars was sort of unnerving. We also got to see some of the animlas eating dinner, like the foxes eating something red out of paper bags (we weren't quite sure what it was but didn't want to look too close!) and the owls being fed big chunks of raw hamburger. The sea otters were even swimming around and playing together, and Mitch said that was the first time he ever saw sea otters actually in the water. Caleb was excited to feed the goats again and this time had absolutely no reservations! We are really enjoying watching our little boys grow up and we had a really nice time together as a family!

The porceupine looks like he's having a pretty good time don't you think?! We both thought he looked pretty soft...although there's no way I would ever think about touching one!
Caleb directing the way, probably back to the goats!
Here is one of the mountain goats...he came down from the rocks and came over to get a drink right next to us so that was interesting to see.
I forget what bird this was but it was right here looking at us!
Little cutie:)
Here is one of the peacocks...there were 2 next to us but I didn't get a picture in time.
This is when I started wondering just how strong those wire cages were!
We broke out both cameras this time (Mitch has the video camera if you can't tell)
Here are the foxes with their dinner...yum!
Ducks are also always a classic favorite
Feeding time! Noah is wondering why in the world Caleb would give away his ice cream cone!
Notice Caleb's open mouth...too funny! Mitch and I always joke that we can't feed Noah without opening our mouth when we give him the spoon...I guess it's just a natural reaction to feeding someone (or in this case a goat)!
The prairie dogs!
This little one came right over to Noah's toe and was sniffing at it from behind the glass...Caleb and Noah both thought that was pretty funny!
