Christmas Traditions Begin...

Today was the first Saturday in December and that means Christmas traditions and activities are in full swing!  This morning we headed out in the first few snowflakes to get our tree and tonight we braved the mini snowstorm to head in town to Perkasie's tree lighting ceremony.  Apparently, so I've been told, Perkasie has the oldest tree lighting ceremony in the whole country (feel free to tell me if this is wrong) and this year was extra special as it was their 100th anniversary.
We missed the big fireworks show but made it in time to walk around like we were in a live Norman Rockwell painting and watch Santa ride in on an electric truck (usually a fire truck but for some reason it was different this year) to light the giant Christmas tree.  The boys had fun tromping around in the snow and looking for the horses that were pulling the sleigh rides, but by the time Santa was done with the tree lighting - we were all ready to head back home and warm up!
In the picture above, the boys are trying to catch snowflakes on their tongues and here are a few more pictures of our night (sorry most of them are so dark!)...
Waiting for Santa to come at 7!  We ran into Caleb's buddy Dave and his parents as well so that was fun!

I don't think this snowman could see much out of his big head because he would just hold his hands out like this and wait for the man next to him to give him candy canes to offer the kids!
Look real close in the picture below and you can see Santa lighting the tree...
Hot chocolate time!
Yummy!
Snuggled up and ready for bed at last:)

It did feel like a scene from a Norman Rockwell picture. That's what I love about Perkasie; it has that small town feel to it. Looks like you guys had lots of fun. We tried looking for you, but never did see you...too bad! When I got to the car, I saw that you had tried to call my cell. I guess with all the noise there, I never heard it ring. It would have been fun to see you guys. Looking forward to seeing you next week. You've been in my thoughts and prayers. :)

When my parents moved to Perkasie after I was finished college, it was the most quaint and beautiful place at christmastime. Since they lived right on seventh st. we could always walk around the best lit streets like market st. and we would go to the ones most decorated because they used to have a contest (maybe they still do). It is beautiful and now I won't be back at Christmastime because no one is there anymore:( but I can remember through you:)
