Mitch and I both love the show "King of Queens", and if have ever watched it yourself you can probably easily figure out that the title quote comes from Doug Heffernan, who loves to eat and eat a lot. Mitch and I also love to eat and while we do, of course, really like good, homemade food, sometimes there is something to say about quantity vs. quality.I remember when we first got married Mitch told me that he wanted to be sure that our house (specifically when hosting people) was a place where people could feel that they were feasting and could eat as much as they wanted and still have plenty left over in the end. Hopefully I've done a decent job fulfilling that request over the years, but the reason I tell you that is because this past week was Mitch's birthday and in honor of his special day I took him to the Shady Maple Smorgasbord. If you have never been to or heard of this place, it is a huge buffet out near Lancaster and definitely fits the description of never-ending food (and we were both pleasantly surprised with the taste of it too).
Believe it or not, I was actually afraid we wouldn't have enough time to get our money's worth because we got there at 5:30 and it closed at 8...hahahahaha....by 6:00 we were already starting to hurt:) But we had a great time and it was so nice driving through the countryside and having lots of time in the car to talk, although half the time we just enjoyed total silence!
Above is a picture of Mitch at Shady Maple opening a card from my parents - who, as a birthday gift, gave him money towards a gym membership...good timing on that one:) And below is a picture of Caleb making some "pigs in a blanket" that we had for Mitch's birthday dinner the night before at home.
Caleb also helped make some ice cream sandwiches with chocolate ice cream for daddy (I don't like chocolate ice cream and therefore never think to buy it), although here I think he's taking a break to test one!

Happy Birthday, Mitch! Looks like you had a great day.
Haha! So funny...especially the part about not feeling like you'd get your money's worth with only 2 and 1/2 hours of eating :). Glad to hear that Mitch had a great birthday.
Hope you had a great birthday, Mitch! Looks like you had a great time at Shady Maple. We were there with my parents a few months ago and had so much fun! I felt the same way that I wanted to "eat my moneys worth," but that too only lasted for about half an hour until I had to roll myself out of there! You need to try breakfast next time though - it's awesome! And there is even a play area for kids next to the gift shop downstairs. It's a win-win situation for everyone! :)
Thanks for a good laugh! I'm glad to hear that you guys had fun celebrating Mitch's birthday!
