Fun at the Zoo

Today I went with the boys to the Norristown Zoo with my friend Jenny and her 3 year old son Dave. I remember going to this same zoo with my Hertzler grandparents and cousins and having a really good time, although I'm pretty sure the layout has changed significantly since then. Jenny and I started getting together when Caleb and Dave were only months old and have had some really fun times with them, including other Norristown zoo outings and a trip to Lancaster for a Christmas show! It's cute too because Caleb refers to Dave not just as Dave, but always "my buddy Dave". So this morning I took the 2 single strollers out of the trunk and replaced them with our double, packed lots of snacks and drinks, and loaded up the boys with sunscreen to brave the 95 degree weather! We had a very nice time and fortunately most of the zoo is shaded so that was definitely a nice bonus. It was funny because before we left to go, Caleb was very inquisitive as to exactly which animals would be at the zoo. He was hoping for sheep, cows, goats and horses, and really didn't think he wanted to see monkeys because for some reason he has it in his head that they bite. After getting to the zoo and walking around seeing all kinds of different animals, I thought for sure he would be excited about the huge bison or the really cute prairie dogs (my favorite)....but when I asked him what his favorite animal was the sheep and goats was his immediate response! He was especially excited because he got to feed a goat too so that made it all the more entertaining for him (and Noah and I!). Fortunately the monkeys there were really small ones so that was okay with him too. I'm not really sure what Noah took in, but he seemed really excited that he had endless snacks all morning! Thanks Jenny for inviting us along, we had a great time!
Caleb was excited to see a new kind of sheep he had never seen before
Those big bison make the boys look so little!
Like I said...not too much interest in the prairie dogs...although I loved watching them!
Lunch break...I tried to make a shady tunnel to keep them a little cooler
Caleb and a porceupine
I'm still a little hot mom!
I think Caleb's done with pictures and ready to go see the sheep again!
Finishing lunch on the go to get to those goats!
At last...and it was even better than he thought because I let him feed them! I wasn't sure if he would and he was a little hesitant at first, but he did great! Noah liked the sheep heads poking through the gate.
This goat was REALLY excited for the food and Caleb was holding it just out of his reach...I thought for sure he was going to climb over to get it!

We had a great time too! Thanks for going with us. Dave was asking on the way home if his buddy Caleb would go to the zoo again? So let us know when you are ready for another trip.
