Our Boys are Growing Up...

This past week both Caleb and Noah went through a major life change....Noah got his 1st official haircut and Caleb now uses his big boy potty! I can't believe they are growing up so fast and it almost made us a little sad to see Caleb not needing diapers anymore, although I'm sure we will get over that fairly quickly. Change is always hard, even when it's good, and it will just take a little getting used to Caleb's new independence and Noah not looking so much like our little baby anymore. Noah did great getting his haircut and only fussed a tiny bit when Sesame Street was blocked from his view. Caleb did great too while I held Noah to get his haircut and just ate his goldfish and played with some of the toys Miss Carol (our hairdresser) had out for him.

The before...bad lighting and all!

The during...

The after...complete with better lighting and a little model pose!

Caleb also did an amazing job learning to use a big boy potty and keep his pants dry all in one day! We had heard from friends that the book "Toilet Training in Less Than a Day" by Nathan Azrin and Richard Foxx was the way to go. The method is basically to spend the whole morning (or in our case, day) feeding your child tons of snacks and drinks to reward them for what they learn as well as to keep them needing to go. It also teaches that you should emphasize "dry pants" vs. actually going in the potty, so if you see Caleb and he asks if you have dry pants, you'll know why! We started off teaching Caleb's Big Bear (the same bear that went in for eye surgery with Caleb) how to sit and use the potty and then proceeded to have Caleb do the same thing that he had taught Big Bear. The morning was a little rough for both of us and by lunch I was ready to call it quits, but we decided to keep trying and after Caleb's nap, it was like everything just clicked for him! He totally got it and hasn't had any trouble since the weekend! We switched him over to a big boy bed a few weeks ago as well so there's really not any baby left in him at all anymore, which is exciting and yet a little sad too! We're so proud of him, although I haven't left the house yet with since the weekend because this potty training is all new to me and I feel like I don't know what to do when we're out in public yet!! But I'm sure that will work itself out just fine and I'll be out and about in no time with my 2 little big boys!!

Here's Caleb's lineup of his favorite snacks that he helped me pick out at the store the night before

Big Bear on the potty...he even got to borrow some of Caleb's new Thomas underwear!
